STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Within Oyo State's Afijio Local Government Area, the town of Awe is the commercial and manufacturing hub. Its aura is one of tranquility, in contrast to that of other industrial settlements. There is not a lot of literature available about Awe or the Afijio Local Government in general. It goes without saying that the position of migrants and the role they play in the process of bringing about socioeconomic development in the region had not received a great deal of attention. This may be due to the fact that academics have focused their attention on larger villages and settlements, such as Oyo, Ejibo, Iwo, Egba, llorin, and Ibadan, amongst others.

This body of study aims to increase awareness of the many different migrant associations that are now in existence, as well as their methods of operation, their relationships with the native population, and the potential challenges they face. This would provide the inhabitants of Awe, as well as the academics, the chance to get an understanding of the actions of migrants and the effect migrants have had on the socioeconomic growth of Awe. Because of the cultural beliefs of the people, the indigenous population is prevented from "contributing" to the growth of the town. This is because of the people's cultural beliefs.

This study is undertaken to serve as a point of reference for further research or study. It is intended that it will inspire more study, particularly investigations into the history of Awe and the contribution made by migrants.
